Detail: Disputed Land Contested land claims were common on the Maine frontier. Here, Ephraim Ballard notes land claimed both by Jonathan Bowman of Hallowell and by the neighboring town of Pittston. N.B. The two doted lines at the south Part of the Town west side the River the Northerly one is 26 Rods which the Select Men of Pittston contend for as the Town Line and the southerly one is 32 Rods which Jonathan Bowman Esq. contends for as the southerly Line of his lot which by the Incorporating Act is the Town Line. |
