Detail: Woromontogus Great Pond

Geographic names reflected the mix of cultures on the Maine frontier. Ephraim Ballard noted two names for the pond below: the American Indian name "Woromontogus" and the settlers' name "Great Pond." Today it is called "Togus Pond."
