Martha Ballard's Diary, July 30 - August 2, 1806
Cloudy & Some rain. Martha Purington Expired at 3h ys
morn. I have been very unwel but have had to Bake and do my
other work. Danl Savage, his wife, mrs Swanton &
William & mrss Webber here for Cherrys & Curents.
they gave me 2s and 3d. mrs Savage
brot me [3-2/1]lb Salmon.
at home. People here for fruit.
Cloudy & rain. I have felt very unwel but went to Son Jonas
to See ye Corps of Mata Purington. Patty
Town went and helpt my Dagt Sew. mr Purington & Son took Supper
and Lodging here. Patty Slept up Chambr.
at Son Jonas.
Clear Part of ye day. mr Purington took Breakfast. they & mr
Cleford, Getchel, and a young man who livs with mr Getchel, Dind.
Dagt Pollard and Patty & Jona B. Junr
dind also. we all attended ye funeral of Martha Purington.
mr Merrit Discoarsed from Job 1st C 20-21 verss,
Then Job arose [and] rent his mantle
and Shaved his head and fell down upon the Ground and worshiped
and Said, Naked Caim I out of my Mothers womb and Naked
Shall I return thither. the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken
|and. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
I attended the funeral of Martha Puringtn
who Came to her End by the Wounds which her Father gave her.

Cloudy & rain. Patty Town did Some washing for me. I have been
at home but feel very feeble. Allin Lambd Came here. he &
Ephm B.ye 3d Sleep here.
